Why here

Why a zero hold is ordinary in Alanya and rare in Spain

Of the first 100 cars the search above loads for Alanya, 43 block nothing on your card. That is a high share by European standards, and it is not generosity. It falls out of how this particular rental market is built, and four things carry most of the weight.

Fiat 49 of the first 100

Fleets of a few dozen, not branches of a brand

The Alanya list is not a row of franchise counters. It is mostly local operators running fleets of a few dozen cars, and the model mix gives them away: 49 of the first 100 cars are Fiat, and 32 of those are the same Fiat Egea. A company whose fleet is basically one model holds its own spares, has a body shop it already argues with, and can decide for itself whether a scuffed bumper is worth chasing. A franchised branch decides nothing. It applies a rule it was handed.

Short trips, small radius

The car never really leaves the supplier patch

A resort strip sells short rentals. Guests staying in Konakli, Oba, Tosmur or Kestel take a car for a few days to reach Sapadere Canyon, the Dim Cayi valley and the Thursday market at Manavgat, then hand it back to the same person who delivered it. The car stays inside a radius its owner drives every week, on roads he knows, and it comes home to a town he lives in. A risk that short and that local is simply cheaper to carry than a large hold on a stranger card.

EUR 23 to 39 a day

Nothing on the list is expensive to put right

Look at what is actually available. The Fiat Egea is built in Turkey, at Bursa, so its panels and lamps are a domestic part at a domestic price. Around it sit the Renault Clio, the Fiat Fiorino, the Renault Taliant, the Citroen C-Elysee and the Hyundai i20. In that whole 100-car window there is not one premium, convertible or electric car, and 99 of the 100 seat five people. No car in that fleet carries a repair bill big enough to justify freezing a serious sum against it for a week.

A different fleet, a different rule

Why the same search in Spain or Italy looks nothing like this

In the big western Mediterranean markets that search returns branches of international brands, newer cars spread across many more classes, and a hold set centrally rather than by the person handing you the key. Those fleets also travel: a car can be dropped in another region or another country, and nobody at that counter will ever see the driver again. Here the car goes out to a hotel on the D400 and comes back to the same stretch of the D400. The difference is structural, not cultural, and it is why the same question gets a different answer in Alanya.

The trade, in the order it happens

Nothing is frozen, so the supplier protects the car a different way: with a short sequence of checks spread across the rental instead of one lump sum at the start. Knowing the order means none of it arrives as a surprise on the pavement outside your apartment.

Book

You reserve online with a card and the day rate is fixed. Read the offer page for the one line that matters, which is whether that specific supplier still wants a credit card in the driver name. A minority on this list do, even while blocking nothing on it.

Confirm the meeting point

There is no counter to walk up to in Alanya. The handover happens at your apartment door in Mahmutlar, a hotel lobby in Avsallar, or the kerb outside arrivals at Gazipasa, roughly 40 km east of the centre. Put the address and the hour in a message the night before and keep it.

Hand over

Licence, passport or its number for the agreement, and a card in the driver name. The card is shown and recorded, not charged and not frozen. Some operators photograph the passport page, which is ordinary in Turkish rental paperwork, and you can ask what they keep.

Photograph

The walk around, done by both of you, in daylight. Four corners, both bumpers, every wheel, the windscreen, the roof, the fuel gauge and the odometer. This is the step that stands in for the deposit, and your own photographs are the only thing that proves a mark was already there.

Return

Fuel back to the mark you started on, a second set of photographs, and the agreement closed in front of you. The coast road serving both airports is the D400, a toll free state highway, so there is no transponder balance to chase afterwards the way there is around the big Turkish motorways.

Kerb a wheel on the hairpins above Dim Cayi and the excess printed on your agreement is what you owe, charged to the card you showed once the car is back. An empty hold at pickup changes when you pay, not whether you pay.

What to have with you at the handover

Three short lists rather than one long one. Nothing here is unusual, but a supplier who holds no money is a supplier who will not start the clock until all of it is in front of him.

Documents

Driving licence
The original, held for as long as the offer page asks. A photograph of a licence is not a licence.
Passport
Turkish rental agreements normally carry the passport number, so expect it to be written down or the page photographed. You are entitled to ask what is kept and for how long.
The booking
The confirmation with the agreed rate and dates. On your phone is fine, and it settles a disagreement faster than memory does.

The card

In the driver name
The card has to belong to the person signing, even though nothing is being frozen on it. That match is the whole reason it is asked for.
Shown, not blocked
It is recorded against the agreement. No amount leaves your balance at handover and nothing has to be released afterwards.
Debit or credit
Plenty of suppliers on this list take a debit card. A minority still want credit even when they block nothing, so read that line on the offer page before you fly.

The car

Photographs
Taken together, in daylight, before the keys change hands: four corners, both bumpers, every wheel, the windscreen, the roof, the fuel gauge and the odometer.
Fuel
Full to full is the normal arrangement. Pump prices here are in lira and move often, so buying a tank from the supplier at a fixed rate rarely works out in your favour.
The return
Place, time and who meets you, agreed in writing when you book rather than negotiated on the last morning with a flight to catch.

Two handovers, described by the people who stood through them

“The car came to the hotel at eight in the morning. He photographed my licence, I photographed the bumper, and that was the deposit conversation finished. Nothing left my account all week.”
Marta K. · Gdansk
“I had assumed no deposit meant a tired car. We got a clean Fiat Egea, and the only thing the owner insisted on was walking round it with me first, filming as he went.”
Ruben de V. · Utrecht

A held deposit against nothing held, point by point

Both columns exist on this coast, sometimes from the same supplier on two different cars. The row that surprises people is the third one.

Search available cars

Four questions people ask before booking one

Your driving licence, a card in the driver name that is shown and recorded rather than frozen, and usually your passport or its number for the agreement. Then the part that does the real work: a joint photographic walk around before the keys change hands, and a second one when you hand them back. Those photographs are what the supplier leans on in place of a hold, which is why nobody skips them and neither should you.
Usually not all of it. The booking itself is made online with a card, and many operators here will happily take the balance in lira or euro cash at the handover. What almost none of them will do is let you arrive with cash and no card at all, because the card is the record they keep in place of a deposit. Pay the balance in cash if you prefer, but bring the card and ask for a written receipt for anything you hand over.
Not on this evidence. The cars listed with nothing blocked come out of the same pool as everything else on the first page: Fiat Egea, Renault Clio, Renault Taliant, Hyundai i20, Citroen C-Elysee. There is no separate tier of tired cars sitting behind the no-deposit label. What differs is the paperwork at the handover and how carefully the condition gets documented, not the age of the metal.
Tell the supplier the same day and send a photograph. At the return they compare it against the handover set, and if the damage is new, the excess printed on your agreement is charged to the card you showed, after the car is back with them. For a kerbed wheel or a scraped bumper on a mountain road that is a bill you settle at the end rather than money taken from you at the start. The thing that lowers the number is the damage waiver you buy at booking, not the absence of a hold.
